8 biztos jel, hogy helyi, portugál étteremben jársz

Vannak jelek, amik egyértelműen az olyan éttermek sajátjai, amik elsősorban helyiekre specializálódnak. Ezek sosem a csúcskategóriás éttermek, hanem azok, ahol egyszerű, laktató, de finom és házias koszt kapható. Érdemes hát figyelnünk a részletekre a vendéglő kiválasztásakor, ehhez pedig ajánlom másik bejegyzésemet is, ami a turistacsapda éttermek felismerését segítik.

1. Papír abrosz

Érkezéskor jellemzően nincs megterítve, csak amikor leülünk jelenik meg a pincér egy fehér papírból készült, egyszer használatos terítővel és szalvétába csavart evőeszközökkel. Szinte biztos, hogy jó helyen járunk, ha még néhány jelet is látunk a lentiekből, megnyugodhatunk, jól választottunk.

2. Napi választék a falon

Ez jónak tűnik: papír abrosz, menü a falon, van normális neve, kellően zsúfolt és belépve a felsorolás többi elemének java is tuti ott lesz.

3. Több asztal, mint amennyi kényelmes lenne

Zsúfolt tér, ami tele van sok, de jellemzően kicsi, ugyanakkor összetolt asztallal. Ha ketten ülnénk le négyes asztalhoz ebédidőben, akkor jelzésértékűen széthúzzák - kb. 2 cm-re, hogy a szomszédos asztalhoz más ülhessen. Tologatás-húzogatás, összeültetés, elvégre mindenki enni akar, a vendéglős pedig kiszolgálni. A helyieket nem zavarja, ezért tudnak mindig várakozás nélkül finom ebédhez jutni, ha a turistának nem tetszik, nyugodtan elmehet, ő csak a bónusz, akik igazán számítanak maradnak.

4. TV a sarokban

A fentiekből már kiderülhetett, hogy az étterembe járás nem feltétlenül alkalmi esemény, így aztán teljesen normális és átlagos dolog egyedül is beülni egy étterembe. Az egyedül érkezők a TV környékén foglalnak helyet és nézik a híreket, vagy leggyakrabban a focimeccset.

5. Bármi a helyi sport klubtól és egyéb csecsebecsék

A kis éttermek a helyi identitás részei, ugyanúgy, mint a helyi focicsapat. A helyi sportegyesület logója, egy fénykép a meccsről, egy megfakult mez valahol tuti ott lóg a falon. Ezen felül az éttermeket a tulajok második otthonként is kezelik, amiben egyszerre van meg a fontosság és másodlagosság is. Általában az utolsó felújítás az étterem megnyitásának idején történt és ahogyan a magyarok az otthon már útban lévő, de érzelmi kötődéssel rendelkező tárgyakat leviszik a telekre meg a nyaralóba, ugyanígy kerülnek a tulaj mindenféle dolgai a pult mögötti polcsorra. 

6. Ház bora

Biztos, hogy van. Az is, hogy olcsó, könnyed és finom.

7. Megnézhető desszertek

Egy 20+ éves hűtőszekrényben van az összes desszert az étterem egyik sarkában. Ez nagyjából annyira alap, mint a TV. A desszertek között vannak torták (rendeléskor szelik) és különféle pohárkrémek. Utóbbiak közül legalább az egyik teljesen találomra készült mindenféle recept nélkül, csak a konyhán dolgozó nagymama felhasználta a közeli lejáratos alapanyagokat. Ennek megfelelően nem lesz normális neve a sütinek és általában ezek a legjobbak.

8. Olívabogyó és kenyér

Gyakran már a papír abrosszal együtt érkezik a kenyér és az olíva. Általában 1-2 eurót számolnak fel érte, ha nem kérjük visszaküldhetjük, csak az időt akarják ezzel megspórolni, mert a portugálok mindig kérik.

Őszintén remélem, hogy hamarosan kikopó jel lesz, de a kicsi éttermek közül sok látványosan gyűlöli a kártyás fizetést és nem is kötelezi őket semmi arra, hogy elfogadjanak bankkártyát.

Supernatural Preferences: Cat

Dean: Dean was adamant that he wanted nothing to do with the “fleabag” when you took in the sweet midnight black bundle of fur you found living around the dumpsters at the roadhouse bar you and Dean both frequented regularly. Every time you pulled into the parking lot and stepped out of the Impala, his cute little panther-like face would appear purring and rubbing around your ankles for any bit of affection he could get. You queried the staff if he was theirs and they said he was just a stray who they fed scraps to every now and again as he helped to keep the rat population down so when you asked if you could take him they seemed nonchalant about it either way. Once home you named him “Batman” in the hopes of softening Dean up to him but he barely looked in his direction, however, you often found them curled up together in front of the TV watching late night shows, Dean with his popcorn and Batman getting fed treats intermittently from the bag Dean always kept in his pocket to give him when he thought no one was looking. Dean called him “fuzzball” around you, intending for it to sound mean but it always came out in an affectionate tone with one of his signature knock out smiles to match so you couldn’t help but tease him about how adorable they were together to which you always got a goofy grinned “shut up” from Dean and a contented “mew” from Batman.

Sam: 4:50am every morning, without fail, 10 minutes before Sam’s obnoxiously loud alarm went off for his morning workout you could hear Batman meowing his head off outside Sam’s door wanting his breakfast, and right on cue, like a faithful butler awaiting his instruction, Sam would open his door and greet the “impatient little rascal”. One morning you couldn’t get back to sleep so decided to take advantage of the early morning start and get coffee from the kitchen but on your way you found Sam being used as a jungle gym by Batman and later on as you sat with your morning java, looking for potential cases in the news reports, you couldn’t help but be distracted by Batman zooming around the living room and doing his best ninja skills on Sam. It took Sam at least an hour longer to finish his workout compared to Batman’s pre-arrival at the bunker but Sam clearly enjoyed the company and when you offered to shut him in the kitchen as a reprieve from the chaos he simply said he was living up to his name and maybe he should call himself Robin from now on.

Castiel: You wasn’t sure who found who more of a curiosity with Cas and Batman as you would often find them in silent staring matches but it was obvious they both held a deep affection for one another as Batman would follow Cas around like he was tethered to him and once you showed Cas how to pick him up comfortably he never had to use his own four paws again, much to Batman’s delight as evidenced by his soft chirrups and gentle pawing when Cas would stop with the pets. Cas would often be lost in Batman’s purring and “biscuit making” on his arms as he held him so reverently, saying he found him soothing and finally understood why the Egyptians held cats in such high regard, even going so far as to worship them all those years ago. You asked once why he called him his superhero namesake “Bruce” instead of Batman and he said it was more fitting for him as it loosely translated as “strength”, “power” and “Blessed” from the Hebrew, which you had to admit, were all the things this regal and beautiful creature embodied.

Elvis themed game

Any game developers here?! Here's an idea for you. A game where you play as a manager to Elvis. I'd settle for a html, twine or JAVA game. There'd be a Col. Parker route ( historical gameplay route with minor different options ) or you can customize your character and take Elvis in a completely new direction.

It'd be a choose your own adventure with each option you pick takes you further along down that path leading to even more options to choose from. As the game progresses you need to balance your decision making skills in determining things like Elvis's health and him being able to make money before he can spend it while accounting for his health. Do you promote his next movie or do you put him on tour? Are you going to set him up with another tv special or give him a months rest? Do you book him in Vegas for a month or give him a world tour? The choices you make matters and effects the overall game. The game takes things into alternative history that falls into the realm of possibility.

The game starts after signing Elvis in 1955 and has multiple endings: Elvis can fire you, if you overwork him too much his health slowly deteriorates and he can die, you can sell his contract and retire or you can try managing him until your character ( Parker ) dies in 1997. Ultimately the goal of the game is to try and keep Elvis alive for as long as possible, wealthy, and you making it until your character dies in 1997.

I'd create this game if I had the know how in game development and coding.

Notes from Off Track (Reese’s, Towels, & St Pete)

Discussed Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups vs Reese’s Pieces and I don’t know where to get these to do my own taste test but I am willing to take one for the team 🥜 🍫 

Thim texts James to say “is this good for Alex or bad for Alex?” because he STILL knows nothing about racing 🏎️ 

James said he has a specific towelling off routine but Alex does not (he said he is moist) ���� 

James doesn’t get housekeeping in a hotel room when he’s away for an Indy car weekend and Alex said this is the thing he has disagreed with him most about 🧼 

Kelly is the same as James and Becky is the same as Alex which is why their polycule works 🥰

Thim got a facial (yes, he got a groupon)! He liked it! And he got some Java House stuff (it had no note or anything so he suspected it was Alex - SPOILER. It was) ☕️

The production was good, the teams were good, the tyres were BAD. IndyCar wanted more of a separation between the two tyre types which does make sense, but basically they want to try to mitigate the fuel saving two stop option 🛞 

Alex isn’t sure that they had quite taken in the fact that the hybrid means the car is very different and a lot heavier 🏋️

Alex’s hybrid broke in the race (20-30 races) and he was very sassy about it 💅🏼

The hybrid seems to actually be making a difference and Alex said you could feel it, it’s mostly muscle memory to use it now, but if you’re in fuel save mode you have to pay attention to regen-ing the battery 🔋 

I’m not going to try TLDR all the technical stuff but Alex explained how different teams can deploy it and use the hybrid in races 🤓 

Alex said the worst car for him to be stuck behind for 100 laps was the #7 car 🫠 

There’s some good underlying foundational stuff at ECR so Alex is optimistic for the future, excited for thermal, but street courses are not their thing and they knew that so he counts it as a huge success 👍 

Alex hasn’t watched it back, but the playback isn’t available on YouTube yet - IndyCar on FOX on YouTube has it immediately after 📺 

1.4 million people watched - James said it was A Weekend - the majority of what has been received from fans is already stuff they are on with and they are working on it which is good to know! 🧱

James is “really proud of Will” 😉 but they agreed he did a good job and really knew his stuff. Also complemented Jack (he is on Tuesdays ep which was great) and apparently the warmup show was good, and if (like me) you didn’t get it on TV, apparently it’s on FOX YouTube 😊 

Drivers are cartoonists but the pundits do not - Scotty and Nolan’s are the worst 😈

A lot of the big FOX guys were there and they had a great time 🥳

There were technical issues in pitlane too - an IndyCar issue rather than a FOX issue 🧑🏻‍💻

Summary:

Minecraft is an open world, first-person, survival sandbox game, developed and published by Mojang. When Ivo was much younger, still living under the orphanage’s malevolent roof, he often spent time alone. With no friends and being often forgotten about, he’d take his stuffed little cat named Java and tuck himself in the corner of his shared, dingy old room. There he would tinker with small gadgets, draw up blueprints for his dream machines, and watch movies. He found himself entranced by the stories, the ones that tugged at his aching little heart, the ones that made him feel more seen than he had in his 11 sad years of life so far.

So that’s where he stayed while other kids played. It was lonely, terribly so, but in a sense, these little films, with Java held tight, brought him comfort. In fact, those lonesome days in front of that crummy old tv were some of the better ones he’d had in that nightmare of a place.

He wondered, privately to himself, if anyone would ever love him, too. He dared to hope so.
